A Best Shot Through Fresh Eyes

Seeing the world the way your children see the world is a gift. The beauty of handing your kids the camera is getting a glimpse into what see as important to capture in a photo. It can be enlightening and inspiring!

A portrait of a sister under trees in upstate NY, summer vacation 2008
My oldest daughter spent her graduation money on a new camera. Her own camera. I have never been one not to share my cameras with my kids but she wanted her own camera, not mine. Of course, I couldn't be happier that she loves photography despite it's prominence in our everyday life. I am thrilled that my love of photography hasn't caused her to run the other way. At least not yet anyway.
Over at PBS Parents today, my Expert of the Month post goes live. Go check it out! I hope it inspires you to encourage the children in your life to get into photography. I would love to hear your comments over there so we can start a little discussion in the next few weeks on the subject. You can even add photos that your kids take in the Flickr Pool called A Little Perspective. I'd love to see what you're kids come up with when they are behind the lens.

And on this fine Best Shot Monday share with us your best capture of the week.
And how about a little something EXTRA this week here at Mother May I?? I propose this Friday A Little Perspective Day. That means you can pop over here and share a link to your favorite shot from your child's photo collection. Let's honor their creative vision-no matter how young they are. What do you think? Are you up for a Little fun this week? Hope to see you back here on Friday, if not sooner.

I love it. My 5yo has a Fisher Price camera and I love downloading it to see what she gets. Now my 3yo likes to grab it and shoot with it too. Definitely in for Friday.

My BSM this week is one I took over the weekend, though!

Great idea on the upcoming child's perspective. I think I may hand it to my teenager and see what he comes up with. I'll be back on Friday!

Great angle in her shot. I like your comments about perspective and I agree it's important to look at life from many different angles.

I have to agree with Mia this is perfect timing as my little one turned a couple of truly good shots Saturday night. :)

How wonderful! I love this idea! My daughter follows me around with her camera, sets up shots with her dolls, and smiles that smile when she says - "we need to take a picture, mommi!"

A kid-safe camera is the #1 thing on my daughter's birthday list in a couple months! I can't wait to see her perspective on the world.

This is my favorite perspective. :o)

What a sweet shot. I think all of us who take pictures all the time have a child who loves to imitate us. I know Ella does!

My son has recently showed interest in taking his ow pictures. He's only 2.5, so I share my old p&s with him and also let him use the remote for my dslr. He loves it!

Here are a few shots from my best day last week!

My Best Shot

This is terrific! I know my son enjoys seeing the pictures on my camera...sometimes he tries to come look too soon (read: before or during the attempted taking of the photo!). We'll see if we participate just yet...

Until then, we'll continue to let him use technology via his imagination as captured in today's best shot!

My daughter asks all the time if she can take some pictures with my camera. Thank God for digital...even though she does come up with some cute shots.

That's so cool that she bought it with her own money and yes, a child's view...it's one of the best ways to really see the world~

We had a blast this weekend!

Hope you did too!

I have enjoy when my eldest son wants to take pictures with the camera. I lie it better when he critiques his own shots. Wonder if I do that out loud, how else would he know to say those thins.

Love the photo and the fact your oldest daughter loves photography in spite or (or because of) growing up with a lens in her face.

Last week I posted about Mac's budding love of photography and one of his photos. It was a good one with awesome words from him. I'll be sharing it here. Great timing.

Congrats on your PBS gig...I already found you there. :)
