Some Kind of Family...

One day last week (don't ask me which day because it's all a blur) I was desperately trying to distract Iris in attempts to ward-off an inevitable tantrum, so I kindly asked her if she wanted to watch Cinderella II when we got home. Before she could answer, my oldest daughter interjects, "Mom, she shouldn't be watching a video today, don't you know it's Turn Off Your TV Week?". Of course I knew because anti-TV posters were plastered all over the doctor's office walls and you know how many times we were there last week. My swift and steadfast reply, "Well, Julia, we aren't a Turn Off Your TV kind of family."

And if that's not something to be proud of, I don't know what is.

I don't do the TV turnoff either! When teachers pressure my children to participate, I tell them to tell their teachers that if they are willing to live here for a week with four kids and no TV, video game, or computer, then I will be willing to participate!

So far no teachers have ever bitten on that one...

How's this...My husband decided to turn off the tv for himself this week (and maybe longer, he said, because he feels "media saturated"...media saturated?! thank God for media saturation is what I say!)... but the kids and I didn't...what's up with that?!

Ditto on M.U. - how else would I get anything done?

That's awesome. Next time one of the girls tries to get all high-and-mighty about the teevee with me, I'm using that. Heh.

I had no idea it was Turn Off Your TV Week. We aren't that kind of family either.

We're more a Can We Get More Channels On This Thing Cause 300 Really Ain't Enough kind of family.

I love not having a TV! But I love me my netflix. If I had kids I'd probably let them watch kid movies way too much but to me, TV sucks.

Ha! I love it.

So far, we have managed to live without the programming (our TV currently thinks it's in France, and therefore doesn't recognize local channels), but I can't imagine what my husband would do without his video games...

I got rid of my TV. Don't miss it. But then again, I don't have kids, either.

Yeah, well, we're keeping our TV and with that I'll say, "All hail Little Bear and Big Love."
